In a township kitchen — little more than a gas ring and a single industrial stockpot — a handful of volunteers had been quietly feeding a street that the rest of the world had forgotten. No funding. No plan beyond today. Just a stubborn refusal to let anyone go to bed hungry.

Mi Life didn't send money. We showed up. We stood at the pot. We felt the weight of the paddle. Because “for the people, by the people” is not a slogan to us — it's a practice. You cannot serve people you have never stood beside.

So we stirred. We chopped. We listened to the women who'd done this work for years without a word of thanks. And somewhere in the listening, their project became our project — not by takeover, but by shared hands.

Young people from our training programmes — unemployed just months earlier — found purpose in the rhythm of the kitchen: early mornings, steady hands, the quiet dignity of feeding someone who can't feed themselves. They weren't just cooking. They were learning that service is a skill, and that a meal given freely changes both the one who eats and the one who stirs.

Every week, hundreds of meals leave that kitchen — to shelters, to schools, to the grandmother who can no longer cook, to the child at the back of the classroom with nothing in his stomach. Each meal is small. Together, they say one thing: I see you. You are not forgotten.

The man at the pot will tell you he's just stirring. Everyone who eats because he did knows the truth.
